"It's a Mini Adventure!"

We often have birthday parties at the GCR but, on 2nd October, we had something a little different. The Railway played host to the West Sussex Mini Owners Club! Each year they organise a mystery trip, called the "Drunken Cow"Run, where only the driver of the front car knows where they are going and this year they visited us. We had no less than 14 cars of various ages and styles, all expertly restored and in beautiful condition. We laid on a double-headed train for a ride over our Gladesman route and, with 28 passengers, mostly adults, it was a real challenge for our drivers!

 

Station Building update

 

Progress is still being made with the station building, all brick and block work is complete and work has now started the roof and we hope to have a water tight structure by the end of September

 

 

 

 

2011 Gala Day

 

Over the weekend of the 10th and 11th September we held our annual Gala day and we had 18 visiting engines. One notable visitor was ex-GCR resident Freelance 0-6-0 Tank ‘Wendy’, it was good to see it back doing what it does best.

GCR on Tour

 

Over the August Bank Holiday weekend Freelance 0-4-2 Tank ‘Alison’ was taken up the Grimsby and Cleethorpes Model Engineering Society for their open weekend, It ran for the 3 days of the event with the Monday being the busiest day. The photo on the right shows ‘Alison’ next to regular GCR visitor LNER P2 2-8-2 ‘Earl Marischal’.

 

 

 

 

 

 

Station Building update

 

Work on the station building has restarted and good progress has been made, the picture right shows the progress so far, the next step is to set up scaffolding around the building to build to up further and to put the roof on the building.
