ED IS BACK !

The historic  E.D. wagons originally built by A.B. MacLeod has just returned from Hersham Waggon Works after a much needed overhaul and re-paint. The colour is a mixture of several in order to approximate the original.

The wagon is used to carry sleepers and equipment around on the site.

22/3. Earlier I said  “all the track was back in place”. Eh no.  Mike, Chris and Dave  re-sleepering the final part of the Jungle line. Good job lads! The old 14”plastic sleepers can be compared here with the new 16” ones.

There is a new GCR history page at GCR History

The GCR has tested the latest addition to the Action Miniature Railway. See picture to the right or visit their web site : www.actonminiaturerailway.co.uk

A very fine model of London Transport electric locomotive “Sarah Siddons”. The model was converted from 7 ½ inch gauge to 7 ¼ inch gauge by one of the engineers of the Great Cockcrow Railway . We hope it will make the occasional appearance at the GCR this summer. In the backgrond is resident LMS Jackshaft diesel shunter ”Winifred”.

Loco news . LMS jackshaft diesel shunter “Winifred” returns to Hardwick Central .  Modified Hall “Mere Hall” and Black Five number 5145 come back from the workshops.

Britannia number 70020  enters the workshop.

A Provisional date of Sunday 14th September has been set for the GCR gala day . As it’s our 40th anniversary it is hoped a large group of locos will be working.

Winter 2007 – 2008

Permanent Way News

Work continues to improve and replace worn out ex-Greywood Central rail along the Jungle line. We hope to have this complete except for ballasting by mid January . Work will then concentrate on the platform roads in Everglades and Cockcrow Hill .

Locomotives

Western Region 6959 Modified Hall  “Mere Hall” is almost ready to leave the workshops after a very extensive overhaul . This has included a repaint and some improvements to the front end. Entering the workshop has been LMS Class 5 “Black Five” number 5000 “Sister Dora” for some re-bushing.  Southern Railway Lord Nelson remains in the workshop having a new ball valve regular and front end fittings replaced and improved . The “Hymek” battery electric has been striped down for a major overhaul. The power bogies are well worn and need extensive work. Southern S15 class number 837 has left the workshop after having some boiler work done. Great Northern large boilered Atlantic is in the shops for frame strengthening.  It is unlikely we will see NER T2 class “Hecate” in steam for a while. This engine may require a number of boiler stays to be replaced.
