Ex-Locos of the GCR
|
|
|
Over the years many locos have come and gone. Some has stayed for
years whilst others are just visitors. This page is dedicated to locos no
longer at the GCR. |

|
A freelance tank engine called “Wendy”. This was a regular steamer and a very capable small engine. |

In background LNER 3 cylinder K3 was build by the late H
Saunders who was a regular member of staff in the 1970’s and 80’s. The loco was
purchased by another GCR member but is no longer on site. It does make
occasional excursions to the GCR. In the middle we have LMSR “Duchess of Buccleuch” . This
was owned by the late Paul Penfold . A regular engine on the railway in the
1970’s |

BR Britannia class “Iron Duke”. Not the best of photos
! I chose this shot as it is in steam
on the newly constructed viaduct to Cockcrow Hill. Date is around 1977. Over
the years there have been 4 Brits stabled on the railway. Currently there is
only one on site. |

“Trojan” . A freelance 4-4-2 very loosely based on a Royal
Scot. Originally from the now closed Saltwood Miniature Railway. I don’t
think it did much service on the GCR. |

Not a regular engine on the GCR, but probably the smallest
engine to have run on our line. This is a model of the Canterbury and
Whitstable 0-4-0 “Invicta” . Built by the late H Saunders , the engine run
successfully paired with the tender from LNER K3! The photo was taken in
1980. |

Southern Railway H15 was a regular on the GCR for a number
of years in the late 1980 and early 1990 . The shot shows the loco leaving
Hardwick Central. At this time the new carriage shed had just been built but
the track have yet to be put in place . Also the Jubilee line has not been
connected. |
